Our vision

Aspire intend to improve the quality of life and job prospects of people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Southampton. This is achieved through a programme of work-based learning specifically designed with social inclusion in mind.

The number of households accepted as being homeless and in priority need in Southampton has risen by over a third in the last 5 years.

Although developments have been made to reduce the number of people sleeping rough by providing improved hostel and supported accommodation, progress still needs to be made to motivate and equip these people out of homelessness and into permanent accommodation and steady employment.

85% of homeless young people are unemployed. At a time when rent prices are soaring and landlords are refusing to accept those on benefits or are demanding substantial advance deposits, what chance is there for the socially excluded to obtain decent lasting accommodation.

Without a regular income it is difficult to afford a home and without a home it becomes difficult to gain employment.

Among the common causes of homelessness in the city is the lack of training, qualifications and poor life skills. This can lead to relationship failure, financial difficulties and unstable employment.

This is where we can make a difference. Aspire exist to bridge the gap between homelessness and regular employment. We provide a programme of work based learning in a supportive environment where life skills can be developed, accredited certification achieved and work based experience gained.
